Andy Sweeting  (Bsc (hons), Pg Dip, MSc)

CBT Therapist, Interpersonal Psychotherapist, Integrative Counsello
Andy has over a decade of experience of the helping professions across the public, private and third sector. This work has included seeing a range of individuals from all walks of life and with a wide range of problems. He has worked in social care with young people involved in the youth justice system and in residential homelessness projects. This work involved a lot of complex needs and led to an understanding of the emotional toll that this work can have, as well as an awareness of the rewards from this work.

More recently, Andy has been working with common mental health problems such as depression, low self-esteem, anxiety disorders including panic disorder, generalised anxiety disorder, OCD and social anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. He has obtained three post graduate qualifications relevant to therapy, has had thousands of therapy sessions with individuals from all walks of life, and is a member of the relevant professional bodies, the BACP, BABCP and IPTUK.

Andy specialises in evidence based treatment, this means that the primary approaches he uses have a significant evidence base, are proven to be effective and recommended by the NHS, the Department of Health and the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE). The main modalities used are CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), IPT (interpersonal psychotherapy) and integrative counselling. In addition to these, he has training in CFT (compassion-focused therapy) and ACT (acceptance & commitment therapy).

Andy firmly believes in working toward increasing the resilience of individuals he works with in a non-judgmental and empathetic manner.
