Liz Mensah   (BA, MSc, PGDip, AdDip)

Family and Systemic Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor
Liz is a qualified Systemic and Family Therapist and a Clinical Supervisor, as well as a trainer and group facilitator. Liz has extensive specialist experience in working with individuals, families, couples, and groups with over thirty years in the National Health Service (NHS), Local Authority, Children Social Care setting and the voluntary sector in the United Kingdom and Africa. She has significant knowledge of safeguarding, mental health, and psychological intervention which I combine with my therapeutic training and skills.

As a family and Systemic Psychotherapist, who sees individuals and family members as part of a system that relates and influences each other in negative and positive ways, Liz supports clients to work together to find solutions to difficulties. Through talking and positive engagement, Liz has seen walls broken down, people reconnecting with lost skills and techniques, developing, and adopting new ones and together with their resilience able to make small shifts which result in sustaining change and resolving some difficulties.

Good clinical outcomes for clients are Liz’s major priorities. Liz adopts a non-judgmental stance, with sensitivity to difference and spirituality and strive to establish sincere and trusting therapeutic relationships with clients from the beginning. Liz pays attention to the impact of wider context issues, such as economic deprivation and accessibility, gender, sexuality, religion, culture, education, on children and family functioning and give priority to anti-discriminatory.

Liz is keenly interested in promoting diversity issues, which can be challenging, complex and uncomfortable. Liz uses her skills and experience a mentor for the Black African Asian Therapeutic Network (BAATN) to support students in identifying useful ways of addressing this within psychotherapy and other contexts.

I am also passionate about the eradication of Female Genital mutilation (FGM), so I provide I provide culturally sensitive consultations, education and bespoke training to young people, teachers, parents, community/faith leaders and any interested persons and organisations.
As a supervisor, I am committed to providing reflective spaces, individual and group supervision and family therapy clinics for therapists and practitioners, using systemic ideas to expand thinking and skills of others.
